SEO for Small Business – How Important is SEO

SEO for Small Business, Small Business Marketing

This is one of those questions that is extremely important, yet many small business owners lack any desire to even grasp what SEO is, let alone understand the impact it has on their business.

I really believe this stems from the fact that many of today’s small business owners come from a generation that only marginally understands computers, technology, and small things like the Internet. While it may be true that forty-something’s will occasionally be convinced to use the web to make a purchase, there is another entire wave of consumers coming of age that live on the Internet. They are wired to the teeth, and all things computer are second nature to them.

Whereas a forty year old professional is inclined to sit down with his paper on the weekend, drink a cup of java, and look over the news and sales-circulars, his twenty year old and thirty year old contemporaries are busy surfing away on their iTouch. If small businesses want to remain relevant over the next decade, they have to learn to embrace the web, use the tools it has to offer, and gain an understanding of the importance of SEO for small business.

This is where a firm understanding of the value of effective affordable small business SEO comes into play. Snake oil salesmen (under the guise of well-intentioned website developers) have sold their wares to many small business owners promising huge increases to business if they will build a site. In the beginning, many small businesses were quick to take the bait. However, they began to realize it does them no good to have a site that no will ever come across on Google because it is buried. Furthermore, these small businesses may have gotten lucky and found someone who could optimize their site…but for keywords that were worthless. It does you no good to have a highly optimized site that uses keywords that no one is searching for.

Small business SEO that seeks to maximize return on investment has to be executed in such a manner as to secure a solid ranking at the top of the search engines, for keywords that are valid, relevant, and actively being searched.

If you are a small business that is looking for SEO guidance or information, I am more than willing to lend a helping hand.
