Ok, let’s assume that you are a small business owner that sells flowers in Sierra Vista, AZ a small town in the southwest, but you feel like you could service not only your local area, but also customers over the Internet.
You wake up one night with a flash of brilliance…you are going to build a website. You have seen the Kevin Costner flick “Field of Dreams” many times. Heck, for the sake of our story we will say that it is your favorite movie. You learned from watching your favorite movie that “If you build it they will come”. You know the same is true with your website idea!
Next morning you roll out of bed, track down the nearest HTML guru you can find and get them to throw up a website so you can sell you wares to the world. You can hardly wait, because you know that Bob’s Tulip Barn is going to be a HUGE success. Your site is finished, it goes live on the Internet…and then nothing. What happened? You built it…why aren’t they coming?
The answer is simple, you have no SEO. SEO what??? I have run into this problem repeatedly…web developers are not optimization specialists. Additionally, business owners are not SEO specialists either. One of the main problems with the example above is that no one is going to be searching for Bob’s Tulip Barn. When Bob threw his site together…it was all about him. Now, no one can find him.
Bob will automatically decide that the Internet is worthless and the Kevin Costner has misled him, but that is not the case. There are many free tools that are available that can help folks like Bob find out which terms people are searching for. Armed with this information, Bob will have a much easier time getting his site noticed…It jus probably won’t be for the phrase “Bob’s Tulip Barn”.
I am hoping to test the importance of keywords on one of my other blogs. A while back, one of my kids had to have some dental work done, and they had to put him to sleep. To accomplish this they used something called sedation dentistry. So I am going to write a series of articles about sedation dentistry Austin and see if I can draw some attention to the topic. It is something every parent should know.
