SEO for Small Businesses – Site Build It Buyer Beware
Typically I use the pages of this site to toss out some musings and thoughts on SEO and how it can relate to the success of small and medium sized businesses. This post is no different. I was reading an article over at Lissie’s “Passive Income Online” blog about a product called Site Build It Scam Review and felt that I needed to chime in. Lis does a great job laying out why the system is bogus.
These types of scams are exactly the reason that small businesses tend to shy away from investing their time and money advertising online. Any half-witted business man can look at the $300 a month these yahoos are charging and realize it is a rip-off. If I were to start from scratch and build my own site (which I do regularly) I would spend $10 (on a domain name that would become mine), $5 on hosting each month (unless I opted for a site that offers free hosting…they are out there), and some time learning a couple of web technologies (these are easy enough). On a yearly basis, my total out of pocket expense for my “new” site would be a whopping…drum roll please…$70. That means that these folks are sucking an additional $270 a year out of each of their victims. Just doesn’t seem right.
Especially in these tight times, businesses need to know that they are going to receive a substantial ROI on the money they pump into projects. Charlatans like Site Build It do nothing but hurt those of us trying to legitimately help and encourage small businesses that a strong SEO program is essential to their online success.
UPDATE: Man, who would have thunk that such a simple topic as this would have people hopping mad? Poor Lissie is under all sorts of pressure from devoted SBI followers for simply expressing her opinion of the software. As I said above, while I have not used the software, it looks like a horrible waste of money and it seeks to take advantage of those without the technical saavy to know better. I just read a great post over at RT Cunningham’s blog about Site Build It followers. A devoted group if nothing else. Personally, I think they should pay me the $300 per year and I will get them all set :).

Lorecee used this program when she was starting out in the online world. She knows first-hand what it will and won’t do. Her wisdom can save you $300.
